But Barking Irons can go in cocktails: Phear suggests using it as a substitute for whiskey in classic drinks like the Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. A passion project brought to life by night after nights founders, Elliott Phear and Casey McGrath. How to enjoy it: The Barking Irons team encourages sippers to try the spirit neat to appreciate applejack in all its apple-y goodness. Barking Irons is a 100-proof, made in New York Applejack. It’s also the perfect drink for fall - think of this as a trip to go apple picking in a glass. And when we sip Barking Irons, we wonder even more: This is indeed a solid alternative to American whiskey, with a subtle apple flavor and some nice notes of spice and smoke (the barrels are charred). Barking Irons Applejack is a new apple brandy which is distilled (for its owners) at Black Dirt Distillery in upstate New York. What we think about it: We’ve often wondered why applejack is not more popular, since it’s such an easy-sipping, approachable spirit (but it’s one that can pack a boozy punch - Barking Irons comes in at 100 proof). The best applejack is usually made by smaller distilleries, like the historic Laird & Company or more modern operations such as Barking Irons. “Cider is having a moment, so why not applejack?” says Phear. Does Applejack taste like brandy While it’s not quite as common as traditional brandy or other brown liquors, the answer is a definite yes. Ultimately, says Barking Irons creator Elliott Phear, who has a background in marketing spirits, the brand should be able to take advantage of the growing interest in all things apple (think the increased emphasis on unusual varieties) and in all things hard cider ( hard cider sales shot up a remarkable 75% in 2014). Oh, and the brand takes its moniker from a slang, 19th-century New York term for pistols, licensing the name from a New York fashion company with something of a cool cachet. That arguably leaves room for a smaller, craft-style competitor - and Barking Irons touts its artisanal approach, pointing to how it sources its hard cider base from an upstate New York producer and how it ages its product - at a Brooklyn distiller, no less - in specialty oak barrels. Add a little raspberry syrup and some orange bitters and you end up with a fruity cocktail that’s not too sweet but is full of flavor. Because the Barking Irons has such potent apple flavors, it melds wonderfully with the apple cider. These days, however, the applejack category is largely dominated by one brand, Laird’s, which was established in 1780. The 1930’s Apple Blossom seemed like the perfect drink for this awesome Applejack. ![]() More to the point: The Barking Irons folks are saying applejack is a spirit with as much of an American pedigree as bourbon or rye, noting that it has a history in this country going back to Colonial times. ![]() Hi, nice to meet you, glad you found my post about this, I think you're the expert on this, I've asked around elsewhere and no responses, I don't think anyone knows what I'm talking about because it's pretty niche subject. If you can give me/us some more info on what you are trying to accomplish, the chances are greater that we can help. I'm assuming that you have some reason for not wanting to just use macOS' notification system. What is more important: being notified as soon as it ran, or just being able to tell how long it has been since it last ran, or something else?ĭo you want that menu bar notification to stick around until the next time it runs? If not, how long should it stay? ![]() What does the macro do or what action do you want it to do? What would really help would be to have at least a basic understanding on what you are trying to do: Which doesn't mean we can't use it that way, just that we need to get creative about it. They aren't really intended to be used as a notification system for something like Keyboard Maestro. The issue with both BitBar and TextBar is going to be that they expect to be updating themselves every "X" seconds or minutes. The developer is there, though, so that's cool. Re: BetterTouchTool forum - I’d really like to learn BTT better, but the one question I’ve ever asked on the BTT was basically “What are some cool uses for BTT?” and I basically got no responses. TextBar is only a couple dollars but that’s enough to put people off of it. I set it up as a system Service so I can quickly run it with a hot key.Re: BitBar vs TextBar - I’ve been a big fan of TextBar, but BitBar (which had been mostly dead, I thought) seems to have had a resurgence. ![]() ![]() My script actually does use MagicPrefs to disable scrolling. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this. And of course it’s a different function than what After Effects does with scrolling, which is an equally frustrating, though more difficult to trigger, zooming in and out of the canvas. Would it programmatically be possible to tell Mocha AE not to react to mouse-scrolling? Does anyone actually use this feature? Seems like linking mouse scrolling and the timeline cursor would lead to pretty inaccurate movements. Then when I drag points on a mask around, with my finger slightly brushing against my Magic Mouse, the timeline cursor flies all over the place creating random keyframes. You’ll see 13 seconds into the video I disable my scrolling. For some reason I am STILL getting the scrolling. To deal with that, I’ve created a hot-key-activated AppleScript that will let me disable all scrolling when I’m using Mocha. Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately MagicPrefs doesn’t let you link scrolling per-application, only the non-scrolling settings. You collaborate with other people by pulling changes from and pushing changes to these remotes. For any repository, you can have as many remotes as you like. You can think of remotes as copies of your project that are hosted somewhere else: They can be stored on a coworker's machine or a server in your local network, or they can be hosted on services like GitHub. What it does have are remote repositories, often called simply remotes. ![]() So how do you collaborate with others when working on a team? No Central Server in Gitīecause Git is a decentralized tool, it lacks the concept of a central server. When you're working with Git, what you have locally is not a mere working copy, like in centralized tools, but rather a real, full repository. After the work is done, the developer sends their changes to the central server, where they are incorporated into the code. When it's time to start working on something, a developer gets the code from the server to their local machine, where they have a working folder. Centralized VCSs Have a Central ServerĬentralized version control tools, like Subversion, have the concept of a central server that stores the repositories. Let's now understand the role that remotes play in Git and how that differs from the approaches taken by centralized source control tools. For newcomers that were previously users of such tools like Subversion or TFVC, groking remotes and remote branches might take some serious unlearning. But the way in which Git's design chooses to handle collaboration is radically different from the approaches used in most other traditional centralized version control tools. Not because remotes are a particularly hard concept-they aren't. Git Remotes: An Introductionįor newcomers to Git, the way remotes work is in fact one of its most troublesome traits. Finally, we'll show you several ways in which Git makes it possible to work with remote repositories. Then we'll talk about the checkout command, showing how you can use it to check out non-remote (that is, local) branches. ![]() We'll begin with an overview of what remotes are and how they work in Git. Git merge -squash Commit those squashed changes. How do you perform a Git checkout on a remote branch? In this post, we'll answer that question in detail. # This next command sets the state of the index to be as it would just # Next: is where the branch was just before the previous command. # Alternatively, you could have identified the commit hash of the last commit BEFORE the # Reset the current branch to the commit just BEFORE the last 12 (or other number): # let's say you did that and you determined that you want to # review the last several commits on this branch Here is a recommended series of steps to follow: It should describe what changes this commit entails. Git commit -squash gives you a chance to compose a single commit message, so you’ll want to think ahead about what that message should be. We want to keep the commit log of master clean and readable. The effect of squashing is so that when the branch is merged, it’s one commit rather than a series of little commits. Git squashing before committing a branch to master # if you encounter merge conflicts… edit each affected file, then ![]() # go back to MYBRANCH and now rebase with the changes in your # grab the latest stuff from origin/master to update your # IN THE MEANWHILE… the remote master branch (origin/master) has had ![]() There are also different companion books that you can use with the two above books such as the Carmelites’ People’s Companion to the Breviary (two volume set). Many people use Christian Prayer: The Liturgy of the Hours which can be considered a short version (1 volume) of the 4 volume set. The complete Liturgy of the Hours (with prayers, readings, instructions, hymns, feast days, etc.) is found in a 4 volume set. Parishes, families and individuals are also encouraged to pray the Liturgy of the Hours. Some religious communities are required to pray the Liturgy of the Hours as part of their constitutions or rule of life however all religious are highly encouraged to make this prayer part of their daily life. Ordained ministers are required to pray the Liturgy of the Hours. (To read the General Instruction, click here.)īecause the Liturgy of the Hours is the prayer of the Church, all members of the Church are encouraged to pray it either in common with others or by themselves. Indeed, it is the prayer of the Church with Christ and to Christ. This liturgy of the hours or divine office, enriched by readings, is principally a prayer of praise and petition. Such prayer in common gradually took the form of a set cycle of hours. The prince of the apostles “went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour” (10:9) “Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour” (3:1) “about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God” (16:25).Ģ. There we read of the disciples gathered together at the third hour. These were seen by the Fathers as foreshadowed in the Acts of the Apostles. ![]() In the course of time other hours came to be sanctified by prayer in common. Then, in different places, it soon became the established practice to assign special times for common prayer, for example, the last hour of the day when evening draws on and the lamp is lighted, or the first hour when night draws to a close with the rising of the sun. The witness of the early Church teaches us that individual Christians devoted themselves to prayer at fixed times. The Acts of the Apostles give frequent testimony to the fact that the Christian community prayed with one accord. From the very beginning those who were baptized “devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the community, to the breaking of the bread, and to prayer” (Acts 2:42). Public and common prayer by the people of God is rightly considered to be among the primary duties of the Church. The General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours explains the origin of the Liturgy of the Hours and its importance:ġ. Plus, there is a wonderful rhythm of repetition (the Liturgy of the Hours is based on a four-week cycle) which helps one to deepen one’s encounter with God and God’s Word. ![]() What is cool about the Liturgy of the Hours (as with the Eucharist) is that the whole Church is praying the same basic form, so it has this deeply universal character to it. The chanting of psalms makes up a major portion of each of hours of prayer. The Liturgy of the Hours is made up of specific prayers said at various times (“hours”) during the day and night. The Liturgy of the Hours, which is also called The Divine Office or the Breviary, is the public prayer of the Church to praise God and sanctify the day. Where can you find these prayers? Is there a tradition about who prays them and when? I see references to these prayers, and am not sure what they are. I was wondering if you could explain Liturgy of the Hours, Matins, praying the Office? (I hope I have these names right).
